Soup for Soul and Body

Lent is my favorite time of year. Advent to Christmas is a joyous time and I love the bright anticipation of the celebration of the birth of Christ. However, Lent always brings to light the things I try to keep hidden. This is a time for honest self reflection without delusion. It is never easy, as a matter of fact, the more I embrace it, the harder it gets. (But I think that is probably true for many things.) At the same time, every year as it draws to an end I know I am better for having gone through the muck. I don't do it in isolation either, I walk with my family. Each one of us chooses a personal sacrifice, a Godly habit undertaken or both according to his/her own conscientious. As a family we make a few family sacrifices, like no sweets, family bible study after dinner and our dinner each night is soup. I try to make a different soup each day all throughout Lent, except Sunday. Sundays we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord with more of a feast, this meal is served earlier and taken more leisurely as to delight in the company of one another in praise of God.
This year I will write about the experience, the good, the bad and the ugly. I will also share what soup we ate and share the recipe to some extent. I use recipes as inspiration and so I can rarely duplicate exactly any of the soups I have made, but for the purpose of this writing I will try.
Walk with us and share your stories in the comments.
