O·be·di·ence

noun

  1. compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another's authority.

Freedom is suggested In the definition itself, compliance with an order request or law suggests that you have a choice to not do so.

God gave us freedom. He told Adam and Eve they were free, that everything on the Earth was for them and they could do whatever they wanted. There was only one rule, they could not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and couldn’t was not an inability, but rather in their freedom, will he wanted obedience.

If you’re a parent, you want your children to obey the rules you put forth. But why what does it matter? I have a daughter and back when she was just four years old, she wasn’t supposed to have candy unless she asked for it so not to spoil her dinner. But we were at grandma's house and there is always candy. I found my daughter in my mother‘s bedroom and when I came in, she hid her hands behind her back when I said what are you doing? She looked up at me, innocent eyes and all and said "nothing mommy." I asked "what's behind your back?" She stared up at me wide eyed, she was standing at the foot of the bed and she pressed up against the bed and then shrunk down to the ground and threw the candy under the bed. Then she pulled out her hands to show me that there was nothing in them as though I did not see what she did. This event upset me a great deal, but why? It was just Candy…but it wasn’t. Her actions showed that she understood the rule but had made a choice to disobey. My beautiful, innocent sweet, four-year-old daughter had just sinned. I was gob smacked! As parents we set up rules because we love our children and we want to protect them to keep them safe and healthy and happy. Is God any different?

He gave us free will, Adam and Eve had everything, they could do everything, they had food plentiful. They had beauty. They had no anxiety, no stress. They had a perfect life, but they ate of the tree anyway, and then hid themselves from God.

God created each of us as a perfect part of his plan for us. He gave us all the talent and strength. We need to play the part designed, especially for us.  he also gave us Free Will God has his plan for us and he lets us know what that plan is in significant and subtle way. What is he calling you to do what will be your answer?
